This story shows the power of the Gospel as a young rich woman named Coralie journeys from a wasteful and frivolous existence towards a new joyful life in Christ. It begins as her brother Dana comes to visit her in New York after the death of their father. God uses him and his best friend Bruce to share this new life with her. Not only is her life affected but their mother also does an amazing thing at the last hour in this tender and sweet story of God's redemption. Once again I am charmed and inspired by Mrs. Hill's intrigue, solid Biblical teaching and well developed characters as seen in many of her outstanding novels.Product details

Lo Michael! By Grace Livingston Hill Illustrated Grace Livingston Hill 9781533636898 Books Reviews
Diana H. Myers--- Had I written this book I might have titled it Angel of the Slums. Lo, Michael doesn't seem to entice a reader to pick it up. Because it should be picked up. It is a GREAT book that is a must reader that want a book with a deep abiding lesson on life, love, prejudice, forgiveness and getting a new start in life. Lo, Michael has it all and so much more. Grace Livingston Hill was a gifted writer. Her books have meaning now as they did in her time.
I love the writings of Grace Livingston Hill. This is a precious story of a humble but mighty man of God. Who gives all he has to everyone and loves with a full heart and is loved in the like. Well worth the time spent to read this excellently book.
I think I may have reached my saturation point with Grace Livingston Hill. When I first discovered these free books on , I enjoyed reading them very much. But either I read all the good ones first, or reading more of them has changed my perspective, but I don't think I can read any more.
It's a given with a Hill novel, that her characters are going to be pretty much perfect, but Michael, the hero of this book, is in a class by himself. He's not just perfect, he's angelic. In fact, he's described as angelic and god-like more than once "There was nothing womanish in his looks. It was rather the completeness of strength and courage combined with mighty modelling and perfection of coloring, that made men turn and look after him and look again, as though they had seen a god; and made women exclaim over him." And not only is he other-worldly gorgeous, he can do anything. He can solve any problem, conquer any challenge, probably even leap tall buildings in a single bound--or, as in this case, make tall tenement buildings fall with a single word, and reading repeated descriptions of his perfection got old long before the book ended.
Overall, I liked the idea of this story--that as a child, Michael saves baby Starr from a would-be killer, thereby changing the trajectory of both of their lives--but this story seemed to drag out forever. It bounced from one plot point to the next--the farm, the alley, the romance, etc--dragging in one new idea after another (smallpox?) leaving the whole thing rather unfocused.
Topping it all off, though, was the subplot about Buck, Michael's childhood friend who ends up on the wrong side of the law. I found the resolution of that storyline both objectionable and ridiculous. Harboring felons--with no regard for the consequences to others--and helping them escape is not really OK, much less something to celebrate. And the absurd incident on the train that ends the Buck storyline shows that either Hill had no idea how guns work or hoped that her readers didn't
Even though I appreciate what Hill was trying to do with this story--bring attention to the problems of New York slums (however unrealistic her solutions)--and even though I like an idealized, old-fashioned romance as much as anyone, the execution of "Lo, Michael" was more tedious than enjoyable.
If you want profanity, vulgarity, violence, etc., etc., this is not the book for you. It's sweet and old-fashioned. I am collecting as many of Grace Livingston Hill's books as I can afford, and can get my hands on. I loved it.
Typical Grace Livingston Hill style. No "surprise" sex scenes or profanity, just a sweet story. Clearly explained salvation message and scripture quotation.
This is one of Grace Livingston Hill's better works. It's full of ideas for helping the poor and bettering society. The romance aspect is subtle and not all that important to the rest of the story. There are a lot of interesting characters and an unusual plot. Do be aware that these books were written at the beginning of the last century. So, they can be a little ridiculous at times. **Spoiler alert** I spent most of the book expecting that at the end of the book they would discover that Michael had come from a rich and established family. I like that they leave that mystery and have him remain a man of strong character who came out of the slums.
Of all the books by Grace Livingston Hill that I've read thus far (at least 20), this is my new favorite. It touched me deeply. The main character, Michael, the Christ figure of the story, was beautifully drawn. His heavenly character made a strong appeal to my soul. The story did him justice. It is filled with travail and pain, which refined the hero further. This book is the very best of inspirational romance novels. Without mentioning Jesus Christ by name, the story mirrored the greatest tale of all that of the suffering Servant who redeemed His world and sacrificed Himself for His bride.
